Headline: RAW VIDEO: Happy Val-Felines Day! Amur Tiger Yuki Finds Long Haired Lover Near Liverpool

Caption: Ahead of Valentine’s Day Yuki, a five-year-old Amur tiger has moved to Knowsley Safari Park near Liverpool to find love. Arriving from Longleat in Wiltshire, 129kg Yuki has been chosen to join Knowsley Safari’s six-year-old resident male Amur tiger, Makari, as part of a vital European Breeding Programme designed to preserve this majestic species. The Amur tiger remains under threat due to poaching, declining prey populations and deforestation. Only 450 Amur tigers are thought to remain in the wild. Yuki, whose name translates to both ‘happiness’ and ‘snow’ in Japanese, was part of the biggest family group of Amur tigers in the UK at Longleat. Incredibly intelligent, she had an excellent relationship with her keepers, which Knowsley Safari’s animal team are looking forward to nurturing. Visitors can now see Yuki in her new home on Knowsley Safari’s Tiger Trail, a 10,000 square metre, Russian-inspired habitat, which she shares with Makari. Perhaps they will even see the pair going on a tiger date! Pete Johnson, Head of Carnivores at Knowsley Safari, said: “We are delighted to welcome Yuki to Knowsley, she’s settling in wonderfully well. Our priority is protecting the future of rare species, such as the Amur tiger, and Yuki’s arrival marks the start of a vital aspect of the European Breeding Programme.” The Zoo is also staging a ‘Tiger Takeover’ during February half-term (15-23 February 2025), when children will go free with a paying adult and can experience tiger talks, storytelling and learn how the tigers are protected in their natural habitat.
