Headline: ‘Jesus, not again!’ Second car crashes into nan’s house a year after drunk driver ploughed through her bedroom

Caption: WORDS BYLINE: Elli Hodgson A grandmother whose life was turned upside down when a drunk driver crashed into her bedroom has had another car hit her property just a year later. Jill Robson woke with a start at 3am on the morning of Halloween when she heard a loud bang outside her front door. She came out to discover a two-car pile-up, involving a white MG and a black Mercedes. Pictures show the white vehicle embedded in a section of Jill’s front wall at her home in Strood, Kent, while the black vehicle had smashed into the side of the white car, causing the bumper to come off. Jill, who has leukaemia, said: “I am not a good sleeper anyway, so I was just nodding off and I heard this BANG and I thought, what the hell is that. “I got out of bed and looked out the window, and I thought – Jesus, not again!” A year ago, on October 19 just after 8pm, a silver Vauxhall Astra knocked through Jill’s bedroom, leaving a huge hole in the property, causing significant structural damage which meant it was not safe to live there. Jill, a mum-of-three, lived in a Premier Inn in Medway Valley Park for six months and only moved back on May 1 when it was finally safe to return, but the experience took its toll on the grandmother. In August, Tamara Bowen was handed a suspended sentence for the incident, having previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle with an alcohol level of 222 milligrams in 100 millilitres of blood. Now after the latest crash, the retired lab technician says “I’m not sure I feel safe anymore”. After leaving her bungalow to find out what happened, the grandmother says a police officer informed her the driver of the black vehicle had run off and it was believed the driver of the white car was not at fault. The police confirmed they received reports of a collision involving two cars in Cuxton Road, Strood at 2.40am on Saturday, October 31. A spokesperson said officers attended and assisted traffic flow while the vehicles were recovered. Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing. Anyone with information or footage that may assist the investigation is asked to call 01634 792209, quoting reference 31-0191. The ambulance service sent one crew to the scene, who assessed and treated one patient for injuries, including to their shoulder, before taking them to Medway Maritime Hospital for further medical treatment. Jill believes the vehicles had been travelling down the Poplar Road junction when the crash took place. She said: “Someone has got to do something about Poplar Road. “It makes me think, is there going to be crash number three? I really do not know.” Fortunately, the latest incident appears to have caused less serious damage, with the car striking a wall rather than the bungalow itself. However, it means the mum, who recently had an operation, is once again having to go through an arduous process with her insurance company and is spending time and energy organising repairs to her property. Speaking after the driver responsible for the first collision was sentenced, she said: “In the background I will always have that fear, will it happen again? That will always stay with me.” Jill was in her kitchen when the first crash happened shortly after 8pm on October 19, 2025. She initially thought a picture had fallen off the wall, only to discover a car had smashed into her bedroom. She then spent more than six months living out of a suitcase while repairs were carried out. Jill said: “I did feel as though I was doing her time, because I was in one room, I had a bed and a shower, and a television and a kettle. “I felt like I was the guilty one and have done six months.”
