Headline: RAW VIDEO: Inside A Wildfire: Astonishing Footage Shows 'Airport Fire' Raging In California

Caption: This astonishing timelapse footage captured by UC San Diego's ALERTCalifornia's camera network shows what it’s like to be inside the Orange County ‘Airport Fire’ as it reached their monitoring station at Santiago Peak on Monday night and Tuesday morning (09-10September2024). The fast-moving wildfire has spread across Orange and Riverside counties, destroying homes and forcing thousands of residents to evacuate as extreme temperatures and dry conditions fuel the flames. The blaze, which started on Monday near Trabuco Canyon, has already consumed nearly 20,000 acres and remains entirely uncontained, according to reports late on Tuesday. The fire began around 1 p.m. on Monday near a remote-controlled airplane airfield on Trabuco Creek Road. Within hours, it had scorched more than 5,400 acres of vegetation in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. By Tuesday afternoon, the fire had grown to nearly 8 square miles, prompting additional evacuation orders as it edged closer to Lake Elsinore in Riverside County. Cal Fire, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, has issued mandatory evacuation orders, urging residents to leave immediately. Firefighting crews, both on the ground and in the air, have been working to contain the blaze, but have struggled due to high temperatures and dry conditions. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in place for thousands of residents in the Rancho Santa Margarita area and nearby communities. Trabuco Canyon, where the fire began, lies just north of the city, in a region highly vulnerable to wildfires. Authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant and prepared for evacuation should it become necessary. The Airport Fire is just one of several wildfires currently raging in Southern California, as the region battles yet another intense fire season due to a combination of high temperatures and prolonged dry conditions.
