Headline: RAW VIDEO: Mercedes-AMG One Breaks Its Own Nürburgring Record

Caption: The Mercedes-AMG One has become the first road-legal production car to complete the the famed Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit in under 6:30 minutes. The Mercedes-AMG One, a Formula 1-inspired street-legal vehicle, broke its own record, completing the 20.8-kilometre track in just 6:29.090 minutes, shaving over six seconds off its previous record, set two years ago in 2022. The AMG One’s driver, Maro Engel, who also set the previous record, attributed much of the improvement to ideal track conditions. The weather was a far cry from the damp and less-than-perfect conditions of the 2022 run, allowing Engel to make the most of the hypercar’s capabilities. “Two years ago, the conditions weren’t ideal. Today, we were able to demonstrate the maximum potential of the AMG One,” said Engel in a statement released by Mercedes-AMG. The AMG One’s impressive performance is powered by a 1.6-litre V6 engine derived from Formula 1 technology, paired with four electric motors, producing over 1,000 horsepower in total. With a top speed of 352 km/h, this hybrid hypercar is designed to break records. Not only has it dominated the Nürburgring, but it also holds records at Hockenheimring, Red Bull Ring, and Monza. Mercedes-AMG highlighted the importance of understanding the car’s systems as part of the success. Engel utilised the car’s ‘Race Plus’ mode, combined with energy flow control and drag reduction systems, to ensure the most efficient use of the vehicle’s power. The advanced aerodynamics of the hypercar, including adjustable wings and a pushrod chassis, contributed to its record-breaking performance. Mercedes-AMG’s engineers had always believed the AMG One could surpass its previous performance. In 2022, the car’s debut lap time of 6:35.183 was already an incredible feat, but the team knew that under better conditions, they could do more. “We’ve held the record for road vehicles for almost two years now,” said Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “At AMG, we always strive to push boundaries, and this latest record is a testament to that commitment.”
