Headline: RAW VIDEO: Lightning Flashes Across Florida As Hurricane Milton Hits
Caption: This imagery from America’s National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association’s GOESEast satellite shows visible cloud imagery of Hurricane Milton as it hit Florida. Notice the frequent lightning being picked up by the satellite's Geostationary Lightning Mapper instrument. Hurricane Milton has moved away from Florida and into the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday (10October2024), but strong winds and heavy rain continued to affect the state. More than 3 million people are currently without power, with Sarasota, Hardee, Manatee, and Highlands being among the hardest-hit areas. In Palm Beach, five people have been hospitalised following tornado touchdowns, while a crane collapsed onto a newspaper building in St. Petersburg. In Plant City, east of Tampa, 35 people were rescued from rising floodwaters, and residents have been warned to avoid the "toxic" flood waters.
