Headline: RAW VIDEO: Aptera's Revolutionary Solar Electric Vehicle Is 'Production Ready'
Caption: Californian start-up Aptera have produced the first production-ready solar electric vehicle that doesn’t need to be plugged in for an average day’s journeys. Aptera debuted the finished vehicle – which features solar panels on its hood, dash, roof and hatch – at January’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The company claims the car, a collaboration with Pininfarina that first emerged as a concept in 2020 - can drive up to 40 miles (64 kilometres) per day powered entirely by sunlight, with no need to be plugged in between uses. The Aptera vehicle also includes a battery that the company says provides 400 miles (643km) of range from under an hour of charging - meaning that users could in theory go weeks or even months without charging depending on how they use the car. It is intended to be ultra-aerodynamic, hence its three-wheeled teardrop design. Aptera used Pininfarina's wind tunnel in Turin, Italy, to create the lowest possible drag coefficient – a figure used to quantify the air resistance an object experiences. Aptera claims its car has the lowest drag coefficient of any production passenger vehicle.
