Caption: Five do's and don'ts for good gut health. According to Caff Rabess, a specialist registered dietitian working on behalf of Yakult, you can support your gut health every day by making the following tweaks to your diet. Do: Eat a diverse range of foods Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables is key to good gut health. “Often called 'eating the rainbow' – this helps ensure you're getting a range of nutrients, including fibre and polyphenols." Don't: Exclude any foods A balanced, varied diet supports both your overall health and your gut microbes. “Eating a wide range of foods can help "provide essential nutrients and beneficial compounds", while cutting out foods could mean depriving your gut microbiome of the nutrients it needs.” Do: Include fermented foods Fermented foods are made using a starter culture of yeast or bacteria."During the fermentation process, these microbes multiply, creating millions of beneficial bacteria while also giving fermented foods their distinctive taste." Do: Stay hydrated You should prioritise staying hydrated, as the gut needs fluid to "perform its key functions"."You should aim for at least 1.5-2L of fluids a day (6-8 glasses) to stay hydrated. While water is a great choice, other fluids such as herbal teas, milk and even water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables can also contribute to your hydration." Do: Practice techniques to manage stress Stress can slow down intestinal motility, which can lead to constipation or diarrhoea. "Stress can impact the digestive system due to its effect on the enteric nervous system, disrupting the communication signalling between the gut and the brain.” Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
