Caption: Deadly Attack in Ankara Sparks Turkish Retaliation Against PKK Targets. A suspected terror attack at a Turkish defence and aerospace company in Ankara resulted in five deaths, including two attackers, and left 22 people injured, with two in critical condition, Sky News reports. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported that the attackers, a man and a woman, were killed after detonating an explosive device and firing at the site. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the attack during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing condolences for the victims. The Turkish government suspects the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) to be responsible for the attack, though no group has officially claimed responsibility. In retaliation, Turkey's defence ministry launched airstrikes on PKK targets in northern Iraq and northern Syria, hitting 32 sites. Among those killed was Zahide Guclu, an engineer at the site, who was caught in the attack while retrieving a delivery. Eyewitness reports described panic as the attackers detonated an explosive near the complex entrance, followed by heavy gunfire, with helicopters circling overhead. Turkish security forces quickly intervened, securing the area and evacuating employees to safer locations. Global leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, expressed solidarity with Turkey, condemning the attack. The attacked complex, TUSAS, is a key player in Turkey's defence sector, producing important military and aerospace projects, including the KAAN combat aircraft.
