Caption: MPs And Lords Call For New Law To Address AI Human Rights Risks. A cross-party group of MPs and peers has called for a new law to protect people from human rights risks posed by artificial intelligence. The Joint Committee on Human Rights says existing UK laws have failed to keep pace with the rapid development of AI and has proposed a dedicated bill. Labour MP and committee chair Alex Sobel said no country currently had an AI regulatory system that was fit for purpose. The committee highlighted concerns including AI-generated sexualised images of women and girls and facial scanning without consent. It also recommended establishing a single independent AI oversight body and tougher requirements for high-risk systems throughout their development and use. The report said some applications should be banned completely, potentially including inappropriate profiling, biometric data use and subliminal techniques.
