Caption: Greece Says British Tourists Will Avoid Summer Border Delays. Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni said British tourists travelling to Greece will not face long border delays during the summer season. Greece confirmed UK visitors will not undergo biometric checks at airports throughout the busy holiday period. The minister said the government wants to avoid burdening travellers with lengthy bureaucracy when entering or leaving the country. Greece introduced measures aimed at keeping passport control procedures to just a few minutes despite the EU’s new Entry-Exit System. The European Union recently rolled out the digital border system requiring biometric registration for non-EU visitors entering the Schengen zone. Long queues linked to the new system have already caused disruption at airports in countries including Italy. Greece temporarily suspended some biometric checks earlier this year after congestion built up at Corfu International Airport. Kefalogianni also acknowledged concerns over rising jet fuel prices linked to tensions in the Middle East but said Greece remains a strong tourism destination for British holidaymakers.
