Caption: British Troops Deployed To Israel To Help Monitor Gaza Ceasefire After U.S. Request. Britain has deployed a senior commander and a small team of troops to Israel to assist in monitoring the Gaza ceasefire, following a request from the United States. Defence Secretary John Healey said the move aims to support the “opportunity for a long-term peace” created by the Donald Trump-brokered ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. A British Major General will serve as deputy to a U.S. commander leading a new civil-military coordination centre (CMCC) involving Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the UAE. The UK contingent will not operate inside Gaza but will focus on planning and coordination from Israel. Healey said Britain will “play an anchor role” and contribute its “specialist experience and skills” to support ceasefire monitoring. The U.S. is sending up to 200 troops to Israel to help facilitate humanitarian aid and oversee the ceasefire’s implementation. The CMCC will help monitor the transition to a civilian administration in Gaza, separate from an international stabilisation force outlined in Trump’s 20-point peace plan. The ceasefire remains fragile, with Israel and Hamas trading accusations of violations and the Hamas-run health ministry reporting over 50 deaths in the past 24 hours.
