Caption: Understanding rosacea: An expert guide. Helen Green, Clinical Services Lead Nurse at sk:n, has shared everything you need to know about rosacea. What exactly is rosacea? Rosacea is a skin condition that can cause a range of symptoms, including persistent flushing and skin bumps. Rosacea tends to "follow a pattern of flare-ups and remissions" and is most common on the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. What are the main causes and triggers? It's often thought to be a combination of vascular, genetic and inflammatory factors. ”People with fair skin, particularly of Celtic or Northern European descent, are more likely to develop it, and there is often a family history of the condition.” Triggers can include alcohol, spicy foods, sun exposure, extreme temperatures and certain ingredients in skincare products. What is the difference between rosacea and acne? Unlike rosacea, acne is caused by blocked pores, often resulting in pimples. Helen warns that treatments for acne, such as exfoliating acids or retinoids, should be avoided as they can actually make rosacea worse. What are the symptoms of rosacea? There are four main symptoms of rosacea, including visible blood vessels and thickening of the skin. ”(The symptoms include) persistent flushing of the face where redness will most commonly appear around the nose and cheeks, as well as thread veins, which will be visible blood vessels around the same areas of the face and will not disappear without laser treatment.” Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
