Caption: Five New Arrests in Louvre Heist Investigation, With One Suspect Identified Through DNA. Five new arrests have been made in the investigation into the £76 million Louvre jewellery heist, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau confirmed on Thursday. The arrests took place late Wednesday in coordinated raids across Paris and nearby suburbs, but the stolen jewels have yet to be recovered. One of the suspects was traced through DNA found at the scene, Beccuau said, though it was "too early" to provide further details. The update follows the arrest of two men last week, both of whom have "partially confessed" to their involvement in the daring daytime robbery on 19 October. Four masked thieves stole nine crown jewels — one later recovered — from the museum’s Galerie d’Apollon in less than eight minutes, using power tools and escaping on scooters. Beccuau urged the culprits to return the jewels, warning they are “unsellable” and that anyone caught buying them would face charges for concealment of stolen goods. One of the earlier suspects, a 34-year-old Algerian national, was arrested at Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to fly to Algeria. His DNA was found on one of the getaway scooters. The second suspect, 39, was detained at his home in Aubervilliers and linked to DNA found on a glass display case and items left behind. The heist has exposed serious flaws in the Louvre’s ageing security system, prompting renewed scrutiny from French lawmakers and police.
