Caption: Four tips for beating winter tiredness if you work irregular shifts. Working irregular shifts can disrupt your sleep patterns and affect your energy levels and this can be exacerbated during the winter months when we naturally feel more tired. To help those who work irregular hours or struggle with winter tiredness, Dr Emeka Okorocha shares his top tips for fighting fatigue: Master your sleep routine. ”Create a sleep-friendly space for yourself by using an eye mask to keep out daylight and consider earplugs to minimise disruptions.” The expert recommends developing a wind-down ritual that suits you, such as a warm bath or a good book. You should also try to stay away from screens and keep your schedule as consistent as possible to "help regulate your internal clock”. Fuel up with energising foods "Go for meals that combine proteins, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats," the TV doctor advises. ”Instead of grabbing a quick fix from the vending machine, try prepping meals that are both nutritious and delicious. Meal prepping might sound daunting, but your future self will thank you when you have tasty, energy-boosting meals ready to go.” Stay hydrated. ”Keep a reusable water bottle with you and make a habit of sipping throughout your shift. If plain water doesn't excite you, use fruits or a splash of natural juice.” Opt for healthier energy boosts. ”Sugary energy drinks may provide a quick boost but often lead to crashes later, leaving you feeling more tired.” Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
