Caption: Top Democrat Vows To Rein In Trump Administration After Midterm Victory. Senior Democrat Hakeem Jeffries has pledged to rein in what he called an "out-of-control executive branch" after his party won control of both chambers of the US Congress. Jeffries, who is expected to become Speaker of the House, accused the Trump administration of widespread corruption, declaring: "We are going to hold the crooks accountable”. The Democratic victory gives the party greater power to investigate President Donald Trump's administration and challenge his policies during his remaining two years in office. Trump acknowledged that the war with Iran had contributed to the Republican defeat, saying the connection was "largely true”. Vice-President JD Vance also blamed the conflict, saying "everyone knows" it was behind the election losses. Meanwhile, oil prices fell to their lowest level in two months following the results.
