An affidavit said hackers had developed tools to compromise sensitive networks in America and other countries since 2018. The campaign reportedly included successful data theft from defense contractors, financial institutions and universities in 2024. Hackers also attempted to access NASA, Senate networks and a U.S. hospital, although several attempts failed. Washington says the platforms were operated by a China-based company serving intelligence and military clients. China denied wrongdoing, saying Beijing opposes cyberattacks and accused Washington of using cybersecurity claims to discredit China.
