Caption: Charli XCX nominated for 2024 Mercury Prize. The 31-year-old hitmaker's latest album, Brat, is one of 12 albums shortlisted for the annual British music prize. Brat, Charli's sixth studio album, was released on 7 June and has since gone viral on social media thanks to a TikTok dance to her song Apple. The album's popularity has spawned the phrase "brat summer”. Other nominees include Cat Burns' album Early Twenties, Nia Archives' Silence Is Loud, Barry Can't Swim's When Will We Land?, The Last Dinner Party's Prelude To Ecstasy, corto.alto's Bad With Names, and English Teacher's This Could Be Texas, all of which are debut albums. Meanwhile, Irish musician CMAT was nominated for her second album Crazymad, for Me, while rapper Ghetts and singer-songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae were nominated for their fourth albums On Purpose, With Purpose and Black Rainbows, respectively. Beth Gibbons' album Lives Outgrown has also been nominated, 29 years after she won the prize as part of the band Portishead in 1995. Rapper Berwyn has also made the shortlist for the second time with his first full-length album Who I Am. Previous winners of the prestigious award include Arlo Parks, Dave, Wolf Alice and last year's winner, jazz quintet Ezra Collective. The Mercury Prize promotes music by British and Irish artists and recognises the 12 best albums of the year, chosen by an independent panel of judges. This year's winner will be announced in September. Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
