Caption: Walmart Halts Job Offers For H-1B Visa Candidates. Walmart has announced it will pause hiring candidates who require H-1B visas, following President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a new $100,000 fee on the skilled worker programme. The move, first reported by Bloomberg, comes as US employers grapple with the costs of Trump’s executive order which he says targets “abuse” of the system that undercuts American jobs. Walmart, the largest private employer in the US with 1.6 million staff, had more than 2,000 H-1B visas approved in the first half of 2025. A company spokesperson said Walmart remains “committed to hiring the best talent” but must be “thoughtful” about its visa approach. The H-1B programme is widely used by major US tech firms, with Amazon leading the way, securing more than 10,000 visas this year followed by Microsoft, Meta, Apple and Google, each with over 4,000 approvals.
