Headline: Leicester firefighters save fox cubs' lives by knocking down wall to conduct incredible rescue
Caption: BY MARK WORGAN Firefighters in Leicester came to the rescue of three fox cubs that had become trapped between two buildings by drilling through a wall. Crews attended a property on the city’s Letchworth Road on Sunday morning (05April2026) after residents reported hearing a distressed animal. With the homeowner’s permission, they even removed a wall to reach the cubs. Leicestershire Fire Brigade shared: “While you may have been on an Easter egg hunt on Sunday morning, one of our crews were busy cracking open a garage wall in a search for trapped fox cubs.” Describing the remarkable rescue, they added: “They were given permission to remove brickwork from the garage by the homeowner, and found not one, not two, but three trapped cubs! All were recovered safely, with one given oxygen therapy via our specialist mask for small animals.” The foxes are now in the capable hands of Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital, with firefighters hailing a “fantastic result!” Staff at the hospital added: “An amazing rescue - thank you so much to all involved! And a big thank you to the RSPCA who brought the cubs over to us, and sought an overnight veterinary stay for one of them who was suffering from significant injuries (and is now very lucky to be alive!). The cubs are now in our care and being closely monitored.” The rescue went down especially well with locals - who sent in thousands of likes on Facebook - as the fox is the symbol of Leicestershire, appearing on the county flag, the badge of Leicester City FC, and Leicestershire County Cricket Club.
