Caption: North Sea Ship Collision: Russian Captain Arrested. The captain of the Solong cargo ship, a Russian national, has been arrested following a collision with a US-registered tanker in the North Sea. Humberside Police confirmed that the 59-year-old captain remains in custody on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. A search for a missing crew member was halted late Monday, with authorities presuming the individual has died. The Portuguese-flagged Solong and the US-registered Stena Immaculate crashed off East Yorkshire on Monday at 10:00 GMT. Police, along with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, have begun a criminal investigation to determine the cause of the crash. The collision led to fires on both vessels, triggering a large-scale emergency response from HM Coastguard and rescue teams. Emergency services successfully evacuated 36 people from both ships and transported them safely to shore. The Stena Immaculate was transporting 220,000 barrels of jet fuel for the US military when the crash occurred. Florida-based Crowley, co-owners of the tanker, confirmed multiple explosions and an unknown quantity of fuel released into the sea. The Stena Immaculate had been anchored near the Humber Estuary, awaiting a berth at the Port of Killingholme when the accident took place.
