Headline: RAW VIDEO: Alpine Unveils Supercar Powered By Revolutionary V6 Hydrogen Engine

Caption: Alpine’s Alpenglow supercar has moved one step closer to making the fuels of the future a reality with the introduction of a new version, the Hy6, with a revolutionary six cyllinder hydrogen-powered engine. First revealed in 2022 as a concept car, Alpenglow symbolised Alpine’s vision for future design and sustainable innovation. Now, the Alpenglow Hy6 takes that concept to the next level, showcasing the high-performance potential of a hydrogen combustion engine. This cutting-edge technology presents a realistic path for sports cars to meet strict carbon reduction targets. Building on the initial prototype powered by a 340 bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, the Alpenglow Hy6 introduces a revolutionary 3.5-litre V6 engine developed entirely by Alpine. With a power output of 740 bhp (544 kW), more than double its predecessor, this new engine takes hydrogen combustion to the next level, offering an impressive 210 bhp per litre. The Alpenglow Hy6 has evolved into a high-performance machine, perfectly complementing its futuristic and aerodynamic design. Bruno Famin, Vice President of Alpine Motorsports, said: "With the development of this new V6 engine, we are showcasing our dedication to hydrogen research, which could revolutionise motorsport. This technology allows us to maintain the passion for racing with a powerful, noble V6 that delivers a thrilling sound and performance, revving up to 9,000 rpm. The Alpenglow Hy6 is a perfect example of how we can make motorsport more sustainable while retaining its excitement." Antony Villain, Vice President of Alpine Design, added: "The road-going version of the Alpine Alpenglow concept, revealed earlier this year, becomes even more expressive with the addition of the new Hy6 powertrain. The redesigned rear section has been sculpted by aerodynamic needs, further enhancing the car’s visual representation of speed and the clean virtues of hydrogen." The Alpenglow Hy6 retains its Specular Blue all-carbon bodywork, now with an even more extreme and aerodynamic edge. The new V6 engine is showcased at the rear, housed in a glass case with blue-tinted accents, while NACA air intakes channel cooling air towards the gearbox oil cooler. These intakes, along with new air ducts and a redesigned rear wing supported by aluminium struts, add to the vehicle’s lightweight, high-performance appeal. The iconic transparent spoiler, crafted from advanced materials, creates a striking frosted effect when the car is in motion, as water vapour is emitted from the exhaust, reflecting the clean combustion of hydrogen. New Michelin tyres and aerodynamic enhancements complete the look, making the Alpenglow Hy6 appear poised for speed even when stationary. The heart of the Alpenglow Hy6 is its bespoke 3.5-litre V6 engine, designed from scratch by Alpine’s engineers at Viry-Châtillon. This engine runs entirely on hydrogen and is a result of two years of intensive research. Equipped with twin turbochargers, it produces an impressive 740 bhp at 7,600 rpm, driving the car to a top speed of over 330 km/h. Its advanced combustion chamber design optimises the use of hydrogen, significantly reducing emissions while maintaining Alpine’s trademark high-revving engine sound. Fuelled by three high-pressure hydrogen tanks, the Alpenglow Hy6 incorporates numerous safety features, including hydrogen sensors and rapid fuel evacuation systems in the event of an emergency. Alpine also notes that it is looking towards the future of hydrogen storage, with research into liquid hydrogen promising faster refuelling times and improved integration into vehicles. Alpine believes hydrogen could play a major role in the future of motorsport, offering a clean alternative to traditional combustion engines while maintaining the visceral experience of racing. Bruno Famin highlighted Alpine’s commitment to the technology, noting that regulations for hydrogen-powered cars are expected to be introduced at the 2028 24 Hours of Le Mans.
