Headline: UNCAPTIONED: Kentucky Derby-Winning Jockey Fined for Crop Violation

Caption: Kentucky Derby-Winning Jockey Fined for Crop Violation. Jockey Junior Alvarado has been fined and suspended after breaching crop use rules during his victory at the Kentucky Derby. Officials say Alvarado struck his horse, Sovereignty, eight times—two more than the six allowed. The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority fined him $62,000 and suspended him for two racing days at Churchill Downs. Normally, the fine would be 10% of his $310,000 prize, but since it’s his second offence, the penalty was doubled. Alvarado’s win on May 3 marked his first Derby title and also a first for Sovereignty’s owner, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The colt, trained by William Mott, edged out favourite Journalism to claim the crown. Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
