Headline: UNCAPTIONED: Ukraine Hopes to Revive Russia Peace Talks in September

Caption: Ukraine Hopes to Revive Russia Peace Talks in September. Ukraine is seeking to revive peace talks with Russia in September, with Kyiv hoping that US representatives will take part in the negotiations, according to chief of staff Kyrylo Budanov. Budanov said Ukraine was aiming for further developments next month, although previous US-led negotiations have stalled over disagreements about Russia’s territorial demands. The last trilateral talks involving Ukraine, Russia and the US were held in February, while later contacts have largely consisted of separate discussions between the parties and Washington. Kyiv has rejected Moscow’s demands to cede additional territory, while Russia has continued to insist on control over Ukrainian land as a condition for ending the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy sees a window for US mediation until the end of next summer and is working with American and European officials on a proposal for Moscow. The proposal is expected to include a ceasefire and a US-backed idea for a free economic zone in the eastern Donbas region, potentially administered by a third party. The renewed diplomatic push comes as fighting intensifies, with Russian forces launching a major overnight missile and drone attack on several Ukrainian cities. Budanov nevertheless stressed the importance of American involvement, saying Ukraine could not conduct the negotiations without US participation.
