Caption: Mercedes to Phase Out A-Class Globally, Focus Shifts to CLA as Entry Model. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed it will discontinue the A-Class globally, ending both the sedan and hatchback versions after the current generation. While the A-Class was pulled from the U.S. market after 2022, it continued elsewhere—until now. Speaking to Italy’s Quattroruote, Mercedes CTO Markus Schäfer explained the brand will cut its compact lineup from seven to four models to reduce costs and prioritize vehicles with wider market appeal. Despite popularity in Europe, the hatchback isn’t viable in today’s auto industry climate. Going forward, the new CLA will serve as Mercedes’ entry-level model worldwide.
