Caption: Israel And Lebanon Agree New Ceasefire Framework If Hezbollah Halts Attacks. Israel and Lebanon have agreed to renew their fragile ceasefire under a U.S.-brokered deal aimed at reducing violence along the border. The agreement is contingent on Hezbollah completely stopping attacks and withdrawing its operatives from areas near the Israeli frontier. The deal would create a series of pilot security zones inside Lebanon controlled exclusively by the Lebanese Armed Forces. A joint statement from the United States, Israel and Lebanon said all sides rejected attempts by state or non-state actors to destabilise Lebanon’s future. The announcement came after fresh clashes, with Israeli strikes killing at least nine people in southern Lebanon and Hezbollah launching rockets into northern Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has intensified military operations against Hezbollah in recent weeks despite previous ceasefire efforts. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir criticised the agreement, calling it a “serious mistake” that could allow Hezbollah to rebuild its strength. Israeli and Lebanese representatives are due to meet again on 22 June as negotiators seek a broader and more permanent agreement.
