Caption: Optus Outage In Australia Linked To Deaths Sparks Fury. Australian officials say Optus will face major consequences after a 13-hour telecoms blackout left people unable to call emergency services, with at least three deaths linked to the failure. The outage affected more than half the country disrupting over 600 emergency calls across South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Some calls from New South Wales also failed to connect. Optus has been heavily criticised for waiting 40 hours before alerting the public and failing to notify regulators until the issue was resolved. The communications watchdog says the company breached standard reporting rules. Chief executive Stephen Rue apologised, calling the breakdown “completely unacceptable” and blaming a technical fault during a network upgrade. He said he was deeply sorry for the lives lost and promised measures to prevent it happening again. It marks the second major outage for Optus in two years, fuelling anger at one of Australia’s biggest providers. Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
