Headline: 'Ghost Ship' That Vanished Nearly 140 Years Ago Finally Found In Lake Michigan

Caption: A legendary ghost ship that sank in Lake Michigan nearly 140 years ago has finally been found. The three-masted schooner F.J. King was lost in a violent storm in 1886 and had eluded wreck hunters for decades. Now, a team of Wisconsin historians and citizen scientists has uncovered the remarkably intact wreck near Bailey's Harbor. Maritime historian Brendon Baillod led the search after finding a forgotten newspaper account from 1886. The ship had been carrying 600 tons of iron ore when gale-force winds tore it apart, forcing the crew to abandon ship. For decades, no trace was found, until sonar revealed the 140-foot hull sitting upright on the lakebed. Remote vehicles confirmed its identity, showing the intact hull unseen since 1886. The Wisconsin Historical Society is now documenting the wreck and working to preserve it as part of local history.
