Caption: JD Vance Criticizes Kamala Harris Over Afghanistan Withdrawal, Says She 'Can Go to Hell’. On Wednesday, Senator JD Vance of Ohio lashed out at Vice President Kamala Harris over the Biden administration's handling of the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal, saying she "can go to hell". CBS News reports. Vance’s remark was triggered by an "incident" during former President Donald Trump's visit to Arlington National Cemetery, marking three years since a suicide bombing in Kabul killed 13 service members during the chaotic withdrawal. During Trump's visit, a dispute arose between his campaign staff and a cemetery official over whether a photographer had permission to be there, escalating tensions. Vance accused Harris of being "disgraceful" and criticized her for not conducting an investigation into the events surrounding the Kabul bombing, blaming her for the deaths of the 13 service members. "Kamala Harris is so asleep at the wheel that she won’t even do an investigation into what happened," Vance said, expressing his frustration at the situation. Vance justified his harsh comments later in Green Bay, Wisconsin, stating that his anger was a response to the Harris campaign "trying to make a massive political issue" out of the Arlington incident. In a statement on Monday, Harris honored the service members who died in the Kabul bombing and reiterated her support for President Biden's decision to end America's longest war. Harris stated that she would "fulfill our sacred obligation to care for our troops and their families," defending the administration's actions during the withdrawal. The U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan marked the end of nearly 20 years of conflict, which began in response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The Biden administration and Congress have conducted several investigations into the chaotic withdrawal, with reports partly faulting the Trump administration for contributing to the challenges faced during the exit.
