Caption: Trump Won’t Rule Out Compensation For January 6 Rioters. President Donald Trump has refused to rule out compensation payments for people involved in the January 6 Capitol riot. In an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump said some rioters had their lives “destroyed” and suggested some deserved financial compensation. The President also reiterated his support for a proposed “Anti-Weaponization Fund” aimed at compensating people he believes were unfairly targeted by the Biden administration. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche recently said plans for the fund would not move forward, although Trump said he still supports the idea. More than 1,580 people were charged in connection with the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, with over 1,000 pleading guilty. Trump granted broad clemency to those linked to the riot on his first day back in office. Asked whether taxpayer money could be used to compensate participants, Trump said he would need to review the issue before making a decision. The interview ended abruptly after a tense exchange over Trump’s claims about election integrity in California, which he again made without providing evidence.
