Headline: The Hen-pire Frights Back as Star Wars chickens create Halloween pumpkin art
Caption: BY KERRY COUPE AND MARK WORGAN A flock of hens named after Star Wars characters has gone pumpkin mad for Halloween by using the gourds to create spooky sculptures. Artistic feathered duo Hen Solo and Princess Layer used their beaks to create their cluck-o-lanterns - and the results are terrifyingly impressive. Overseeing matters was their owner, primary school teacher Tamzyn Platt, who is more used to keeping four and five-year-olds entertained with craft activities. She found her chicken charges were enthusiastic about the task - and very well behaved. “All I had to do was shave a little of the pumpkin skin where the eyes and mouth should go, and then they got pecking,” she said. “I knew they would enjoy pumpkin because they were fed last year’s leftovers after Halloween.” In addition to helping her with her Halloween decorations, Hen and Layer keep Tamzyn, from Uffington in Oxfordshire, in egg supplies all year round, producing about five a day between them. That’s if they’re not too busy firing up the Mill-hen-nium Falcon and speeding off to a galaxy far, far a-lay.
