Caption: Gaza Flotilla Sails Again Amid Warnings from Italy. An international aid flotilla paused in Greek waters for repairs has resumed its journey to Gaza to challenge Israel’s naval blockade and deliver humanitarian aid. Greek vessels have joined the flotilla, which now includes 47 civilian boats from dozens of countries. The Global Sumud Flotilla wrote on social media that they sail with hope and solidarity for Gaza, aiming to break the silence of the siege. Around 40 Italians are aboard alongside activists including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg. Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani suggested taking aid to Cyprus for distribution via the Roman Catholic Church, but the flotilla rejected the proposal. Tajani warned that approaching Israeli waters is dangerous and that forcing the blockade could have unpredictable consequences. The flotilla was struck by drones armed with stun grenades and irritants off Crete, causing damage but no injuries. Israel maintains its naval blockade is legal and has threatened to prevent the boats from reaching Gaza while Italy and Spain have deployed ships for rescue and humanitarian support.
