Headline: VIDEO: Sunnyfields Farm in Totton unveils giant tribute to Ozzy Osbourne made of 10,000 pumpkins and squash
Caption: WORDS BYLINE: Carolyn Griffith A giant tribute to rock star Ozzy Osbourne made of pumpkins has been unveiled at a New Forest farm. The display at Sunnyfields in Totton is made up of around 10,000 pumpkins and squash and took 10 people around eight hours to complete. In previous years the spectacular mosaics have included a pumpkin face with a mask during the pandemic, a Cinderella carriage, and Paddington Bear. This year, the design was picked after Sunnyfields asked customers to suggest a theme, with more than 70% of people suggesting the legendary singer. Owner Tom Nelson explained the display costs around £10,000, with the pumpkins returned to the soil for the next year. He added: “A squash has a harder skin and tastes fantastic, so they all get eaten after.” Commenting on the previous record, he said: “In 2023 we did get a Guinness World Record for the largest mural made from pumpkins and squash. Although the pyramid hasn’t changed size, it is possible that this year’s mural might be a bit bigger, though we are not submitting it. “We were hoping that someone else might take on the challenge to beat us – and then we will up the ante.” People can get up close to the display during the farm’s Pumpkin Time event, which this year includes six new immersive rooms and live music on selected evenings. Tom added: “Each year we try to add more and keep the experience fresh. We have seen a trend of more adult groups wanting to come, but they are sometimes cautious that it is just an event for kids. “While the event is fully family-friendly – lots of coloured wheelbarrows to use, hundreds of thousands of pumpkins of all sizes and colours, as well as great family photo opportunities – we also have two fully black out areas. “One of these is the glow trail, this is a maze-like walk through with murals painted with paint that pops in UV light. The glow trail was there in 2024, though we have added a new section to it for 2025. “New for this year and taking the event to another level is the immersive rooms. These rooms are about 10-meters squared and five-meters high. Being fully blackout allows us to control the experience, with both light and sound. “The height of the rooms also helps to add that immersed feeling – we can’t give too much away, though we are very pleased with the experience.” He added: “Also new for this year is the addition of a DJ in the evenings, in partnership with Vibrant Forest Brewery who brew just six miles from the farm. We are open for 17 days and 13 of them have evening slots” Pumpkin Time opens on Saturday 4th October, with the first evening event on Friday 10th October. Tickets cost £6.50 each for anyone aged two or over and are available online at www.sunnyfields.co.uk
