Reuters reported that Mira Murati, a former OpenAI nonprofit board member, acknowledged the existence of this new Q* model in an internal staff message. Sources claim that Q* was at the heart of the decision to fire Altman over a push for commercializing the product before it was fully understood. Those sources claim the new AI system is capable of solving grade-school math equations, an achievement long considered a benchmark in developing an AGI. "In the case of math, we know existing AIs have been shown to be capable of undergraduate-level math but to struggle with anything more advanced."
