Caption: Supreme Court Rejects Derek Chauvin's Murder Appeal. Former police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of the murder of George Floyd in April 2021. He was sentenced to over 20 years in prison. In October of this year, Chauvin's legal team appealed the conviction, arguing that he didn't receive a fair trial due to prejudice caused by publicity. The other former officers convicted of being involved in Floyd's murder were given "lesser state and federal sentences," 'The Guardian' reports. Chauvin's legal team also alleged that there was juror misconduct, claiming they only found Chauvin guilty to deter threats of violence made by the public. But on Nov. 20, the Supreme Court rejected the conviction appeal. It did not comment on its decision. Chauvin has also submitted a conviction appeal "on federal civil rights charges," 'The Guardian' reports. Chauvin's actions, in which he knelt on Floyd's neck for nearly 10 minutes until he died, were caught on video in May 2020. The incident sparkled global outrage and gave renewed life to the Black Lives Matter movement. THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
