Caption: Study Exposes the Massive Carbon Footprint of Billionaires. A new report claims that the world's 12 wealthiest people are responsible for generating the same annual emissions as 2.1 million homes. 'The Independent' reports that a study by Oxfam and two researchers in the United States uncovered billionaires' massive carbon footprint. The list of billionaires includes Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk, Amazon's Jeff Bezos, former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates and former Google CEO Larry Page. Google’s Sergey Brin and Eric Schmidt, LVMH’s Bernard Arnault and Oracle’s Larry Ellison also made the list. 'The Independent' reports that the billionaires' investments and shareholdings are alleged to produce nearly 17 tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year. Jeff Bezos' $500 million megayacht, the world's largest sailing yacht, is estimated to produce 7,154 tons of carbon emissions annually. The Oxfam study also looked at a broader pool of 125 billionaires, finding that their average emissions were over a million times higher than those produced by 90% of the world's population. Many of those named on the list have invested part of their vast fortunes to address the impact of climate change. Bezos has set up the Earth Fund, investing $10 billion in distributing grants “to address climate and nature”. as the world transitions to clean energy.” A spokesperson said that Bill Gates has been selling off his direct holdings in oil and gas companies since 2019, “because he didn’t want to profit from those as the world transitions to clean energy.” THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
