It is understood MacGowan's remains will be brought in a funeral cortege from his family's homeplace of Nenagh to Dublin City for a public procession on Friday morning. Irish President Michael D Higgins is expected to attend the Fairytale of New York singer's funeral, along with high-profile guests from the entertainment industry. MacGowan died at his Dublin home on Thursday aged 65, just over a week after he had been released from hospital following several months of treatment. It was revealed on Friday the punk rock legend died of pneumonia, following a lengthy battle with viral encephalitis, which he was diagnosed with in 2022.
