Caption: At least 10 people, including a nine-year-old girl, have died after Eastern Australia was hit by severe thunderstorms on Christmas and Boxing Day. This video footage and these images show some of the results of the storm in Queensland, where most of the deaths occurred and tens of thousands of people are still without power. Victoria and New South Wales were also hit by flooding and high winds. Further thunderstorms have been forecast. Queensland Premier Steven Miles called the strength of the winds have been “unprecedented”. The latest storms come a little more than a week after Cyclone Jasper hit Queensland causing widespread floods. Australia is currently enduring an El Nino cycle, typically associated with extreme weather events.
